Companies in the gravel- and sand industry ensure that everyone in this region is supplied with natural resources – 254 million tons of gravel and sand were used nationwide in 2010. Out of the tons produced in Germany, only 21 percent were used for domestic buildings. About 53 percent of the total production were ordered for the public and associated civil engineering from the federal, state and local governments.
